Grief Recovery Method® | Individual & Group Programs

Recognizing Loss. Honoring Your Story. Taking Steps Toward Emotional Recovery.

Grief Isn't Always What We Think It Is

“I didn’t know I was grieving. I thought I was just living.”

For much of my life, I didn’t recognize that some of the experiences I was carrying were forms of grief.

I thought grief was primarily about death—the loss of someone we love.

But grief can also emerge when relationships change, when our health shifts, when careers end, when families become estranged, or when the life we imagined doesn’t unfold as we hoped.

Sometimes, we grieve what happened.

Sometimes, we grieve what never happened.

And sometimes, we grieve the person we were before life changed.

These experiences deserve acknowledgment, too.

As a Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist, I offer a structured, supportive space for individuals who want to explore the emotional impact of loss and take meaningful steps toward recovery.

You don’t have to wait until someone dies to recognize that you’ve experienced a meaningful loss.

What Is the Grief Recovery Method®?

The Grief Recovery Method® (GRM) is a structured, action-oriented educational program designed to help people address the emotional pain associated with loss.

Rather than focusing exclusively on understanding grief intellectually, the method provides practical steps for identifying and addressing unresolved emotional experiences connected to loss.

The program creates opportunities to explore what may have been left unsaid, unfinished, or emotionally unresolved.

It isn’t about forgetting someone, dismissing what happened, or pretending the loss no longer matters.

It’s about developing a different relationship with the emotional pain you’ve been carrying.

The Grief Recovery Method® follows an established curriculum and is facilitated as a distinct program.

The Many Faces of Grief

Grief can accompany many different life experiences, including:

  • Death of a loved one
  • Divorce, separation, and relationship endings
  • Betrayal and broken trust
  • Family estrangement
  • Health changes, disability, and loss of independence
  • Job loss, career transitions, and financial changes
  • Addiction-related losses
  • Changes in identity, roles, and responsibilities
  • Unrealized dreams and expectations
  • Ambiguous losses—when something important has changed without a clear ending

Your loss doesn’t have to look like someone else’s to deserve attention.

You may recognize your experience in one of these examples, or your loss may be something entirely different.

What matters is the emotional significance it holds for you.

Two Ways to Experience the Grief Recovery Method®

Both programs are facilitated by Michelle J. Dyett-Welcome, M.S.Ed., PCC, Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist.

All sessions are conducted virtually via Zoom, allowing you to participate from a private, comfortable location.

The individual program offers a private, supportive environment to explore the emotional impact of loss while following the established seven-session Grief Recovery Method® curriculum.

This experience may be especially meaningful if you prefer individualized attention, greater privacy, or a one-on-one setting for reflecting on your experiences.

Your program includes:

  • Seven private, facilitated GRM sessions
  • Individualized scheduling
  • Guided activities and reflection following the GRM curriculum
  • Virtual meetings via Zoom
  • A complete program investment of $3,500

You register and pay only once. Your $3,500 payment covers all seven sessions.

Before Your Individual Program Begins

Before your first session, you may be asked to complete a brief pre-program questionnaire to help clarify your goals, expectations, and readiness to participate. Any required forms or agreements will be provided by email and completed before your program begins.

***This administrative process is separate from the seven-session Grief Recovery Method® curriculum.

Eight-Week Grief Recovery Method® Group Program Eight Weekly Sessions | 16 Hours | $850 Per Participant

Grief can feel isolating, particularly when others don’t recognize or understand the losses we’re carrying.

The eight-week group program offers a structured environment where participants can engage in the Grief Recovery Method® alongside others who are taking steps toward addressing the emotional impact of loss.

Although participants may have different experiences, the program provides a shared structure for reflection, learning, and meaningful action.

Your program includes:

  • Eight weekly group sessions
  • Two hours per session
  • Sixteen hours of facilitated group experience
  • Guided activities following the established GRM curriculum
  • Virtual meetings via Zoom
  • A complete program investment of $850 per participant

Group Participation Requirements

The Grief Recovery Method® is a structured, participatory program. Each session builds upon the previous one, and your commitment is essential to your experience and the trust developed within the group.

  • Attendance: Participants are expected to attend all eight sessions. whenever possible.
  • New participants may join during Sessions One or Two. Beginning with Session Three, the group is closed to new members.
  • Active Participation: All participants must be willing to participate and share their assigned work. This is not an observation-only experience. Sharing is reciprocal and helps establish trust and emotional safety within the group.
  • Required Homework: Weekly reading, writing, and reflection assignments must be completed. Participants will share and discuss their assignments in dyads or groups of triads.
  • Confidentiality: Participants agree to respect the privacy of other members and refrain from judging, criticizing, analyzing, or attempting to fix others.

Is the Group Experience Right for You?

The group program is designed for individuals who are willing to participate actively, complete weekly assignments, share their work, and respect the confidentiality of others.

If you prefer not to share personal experiences or assignments with other group members, the Individual Grief Recovery Method® Program may be a better fit.

There is no lesser choice between group and individual participation. What matters is choosing the environment that best supports your needs.

Pre-Program Agreement

Before your first session, you will receive a brief group readiness questionnaire and participation agreement outlining attendance, homework, sharing, confidentiality, and other group expectations.

These documents must be reviewed and completed before the program begins.

Registration and scheduling

Your registration and payment secure your place in the complete eight-week program.

You will receive a booking confirmation and payment receipt. Your complete group schedule, including all eight meeting dates, times, and Zoom information, will be emailed separately.

Please ensure that you can attend your selected group’s scheduled meeting times before registering.

You register and pay only once. Your $850 payment covers all eight sessions.

Group Attendance, Withdrawal & Enrollment Closure

The Eight-Week GRM Group Program requires consistent attendance, completion of assigned homework, and active participation. Participants are expected to attend all eight sessions, with no more than two absences permitted.

New participants may be admitted during Sessions One and Two. Beginning with Session Three, enrollment is closed, and no additional participants will be accepted into that group.

Participants who voluntarily withdraw after group enrollment closes will not receive a refund, credit, or reimbursement for any remaining or unused group sessions, except where required by applicable law. Failure to attend, complete required assignments, or participate in the group does not automatically entitle a participant to a refund.

Refunds, Cancellations & Additional Support

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Registration in a Grief Recovery Method® (GRM) program constitutes a commitment to the complete program and reserves a place that may otherwise be unavailable to another participant. The following terms apply to both the Seven-Session Individual Program and the Eight-Week Group Program.

Cancellations Seven or More Days Before the Program Begins

Participants who submit a written cancellation request at least seven calendar days before their scheduled program start date are eligible for a refund, less the applicable nonrefundable registration fee:

  • Individual Program ($3,500): $125 nonrefundable registration fee; $3,375 refunded.
  • Group Program ($850): $50 nonrefundable registration fee; $800 refunded.

Cancellations Less Than Seven Days Before the Program Begins

Participants who cancel fewer than seven calendar days before their scheduled program start date are eligible for a refund equal to 50% of the total program fee:

  • Individual Program: $1,750 refunded.
  • Group Program: $425 refunded.

The 50% refund is inclusive of the applicable registration fee deduction; no additional registration fee will be withheld.

Cancellations After the Program Begins

Once a program begins, registration fees are nonrefundable, except as otherwise required by applicable law or expressly provided in this policy. Missed sessions do not qualify for refunds, credits, or replacement sessions.

Transfer From Group to Individual GRM Services

Participants who wish to discontinue the group experience after enrollment closes may request a transfer to individual GRM services. Transfers are subject to facilitator approval, scheduling availability, and authorization under the applicable Grief Recovery Method® curriculum.

Financial Terms

The full investment for the Individual GRM Program is $3,500. The participant’s original $850 group payment will be applied toward this amount, leaving an additional balance of $2,650, payable in full before individual services begin.

Scope of the Transfer

An approved transfer covers only the number of sessions remaining in the participant’s original group program at the time of withdrawal. Previously completed or missed sessions will not be repeated or replaced. The transfer does not provide an additional seven sessions or extend the original program.

For example, a participant who withdraws after completing three group sessions would have five sessions remaining. If the transfer is approved and the additional $2,650 is paid, the participant would receive five individual sessions.

Transfers are not automatic, and no individual sessions will be scheduled until the transfer has been approved and payment has been received.

Facilitator Cancellations

If Michelle cancels a program before it begins and does not provide the program, participants will receive a full refund of all program fees paid, including registration fees. If a program cannot be completed due to facilitator cancellation, participants will be offered an appropriate remedy consistent with applicable law and the services already provided.

Cancellation & Transfer Requests

All requests for cancellation, withdrawal, or transfer must be submitted in writing to: michelle@michelledyettwelcome.com

The date the written request is received will determine which cancellation period applies. By registering, participants acknowledge that they have had an opportunity to review these terms before making payment. Any separate participation agreement must also be completed before the program begins.

All provisions are subject to applicable law and the requirements of the Grief Recovery Method®.

Additional Individual Support Between Group Sessions

Participating in the GRM group experience may bring forward personal experiences or questions that you wish to explore more privately. Optional individual support sessions are available for participants who would benefit from additional time and attention between scheduled group meetings.

Additional Support Fee: $250 per 60-minute session

  • Sessions are conducted virtually via Zoom.
  • Additional support is optional and is not included in the $850 group registration fee.
  • Payment is required before the scheduled appointment.
  • Additional support sessions do not replace required group attendance, homework assignments, or participation.
  • These sessions are separate from the established GRM group curriculum.

To inquire about additional support or request an appointment, please email michelle@michelledyettwelcome.com.

What Can You Expect?

The Grief Recovery Method® is not about being told how you should feel or how quickly you should move forward.

Grief is personal, and the emotional impact of loss is not determined by how long ago something happened.

Throughout the program, you’ll be invited to engage in structured learning, personal reflection, and action-oriented exercises designed to help you address unresolved grief.

Participation involves more than attending sessions. The program includes activities and assignments that build upon one another.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning.

You simply need a willingness to explore your experience and participate in the process.

Participant Safety, Emergency Interruptions & Makeup Sessions

The emotional work involved in the Grief Recovery Method® may bring forward difficult feelings, memories, or experiences. The emotional and physical safety of participants is a priority. If a participant experiences an urgent emotional or safety-related crisis during a group meeting, including circumstances involving potential self-harm, the facilitator may pause or conclude the session early to respond appropriately.

When a group session ends early because of an emergency:

  • Participants will be notified that the session is ending due to an urgent matter, without disclosing another participant’s confidential information.
  • Any required instructional content that could not be completed will be rescheduled.
  • The facilitator will provide a makeup date and time, generally following the final scheduled group meeting, unless an earlier date is necessary.
  • Participants will receive the makeup date, time, and Zoom information by email.
  • The remaining group sessions will continue according to the established schedule whenever possible.
  • No additional fee will be charged for a makeup session provided to complete interrupted program content.

An emergency-related interruption does not constitute cancellation of the entire program. Participants remain enrolled, and the facilitator will provide a makeup date and time to ensure that the instructional content interrupted by the emergency is completed. Makeup dates will be provided in accordance with the requirements of the approved GRM curriculum.

Participant Privacy: To protect confidentiality, the facilitator will not disclose another participant’s personal circumstances or the details of an emergency.

Why I Offer Grief Recovery Support

My professional work has long centered on helping people reconnect with themselves, recognize what they’ve been carrying, and create space for meaningful transformation.

Through my experiences with Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, somatic coaching, relationship recovery, and transformational work, I’ve witnessed how deeply loss can shape the way people relate to themselves and others.

My own understanding of grief has also expanded.

I’ve come to recognize that we can spend years adapting to difficult experiences without identifying the grief associated with them.

We may learn to function, accomplish, care for others, and keep moving forward while carrying emotional pain that has never been fully acknowledged.

This recognition is part of what drew me to the Grief Recovery Method®.

I value its structured approach and its acknowledgment that grief extends far beyond bereavement.

As a Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist, I facilitate the established GRM curriculum as its own distinct experience, honoring the integrity of the method.

My intention is to offer a space where your losses can be acknowledged, your experiences can be approached with honesty, and meaningful recovery work can begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to share during group sessions?

Yes. The Grief Recovery Method® group program requires active participation, including sharing assigned work with other group members. Participants are not expected to share every personal detail, but they must be willing to participate in the required exercises and discussions. If you prefer a private setting or are uncomfortable sharing with a group, the individual program may be a better choice.

Is homework required?

Yes. Weekly homework is an essential component of the Grief Recovery Method®. Assignments include reading, writing, and reflection exercises that build upon one another. Group participants are expected to complete their assignments and be prepared to discuss them during scheduled sessions, including small-group activities.

Do I have to be grieving a death to participate?

No. The Grief Recovery Method® addresses many forms of loss, including relationship endings, family estrangement, health changes, career loss, and other significant life experiences.

What if my loss happened years ago?

You can still participate. The emotional impact of loss doesn’t necessarily disappear simply because time has passed.

Are the programs offered online?

Yes. Both the individual and group programs are offered virtually through Zoom. Participants should have access to a private space where they can participate without interruption.

Is the Grief Recovery Method® therapy?

No. The Grief Recovery Method® is a structured, action-oriented educational program. It is not psychotherapy or a substitute for mental health treatment when such treatment is needed.

Do I need to pay for every session?

No. Your registration payment covers the complete program. The individual program is $3,500 for seven sessions, and the group program is $850 for eight sessions. You will not need to register or pay separately for each meeting.

How will I receive my schedule?

After enrollment, your complete schedule and Zoom meeting information will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.

What if I have questions before registering?

You can email michelle@michelledyettwelcome.com with questions about the programs, scheduling, or registration.

Your Experience of Loss Matters

You may have spent years finding ways to keep going.

You may have learned to carry difficult experiences quietly.

You may even have wondered whether what you’ve experienced qualifies as grief.

You don’t have to compare your loss to someone else’s to acknowledge its impact on your life.

The Grief Recovery Method® offers a structured opportunity to explore what you’ve been carrying and take meaningful steps toward addressing unresolved emotional pain.
